Wildfire Mitigation

Truckee Tahoe Airport's Wildfire Mitigation Program

"The Airport is committed to sustainable aviation and a sustainable community."

Starting in 2024, the Truckee Tahoe Airport District is helping to fund $2M in shovel ready regional wildfire mitigation projects. This sizeable contribution to regional fire mitigation work aligns with the TTAD mission to protect the environment, increase community safety, and provide sustained benefit to the entire Truckee Tahoe region. TTAD joined forces with four regional fire districts and Cal Fire in the planned treatment of over 700 acres of forest within TTAD boundaries.

The TTAD board believes that they can continue to focus on funding additional fire mitigation projects in the region into the foreseeable future to serve the greater good of providing fire break buffers and thinning of overgrown forests thereby better protecting everyone who resides within the TTAD boundaries. The following map shows Project Locations and Project Details.

Our Partners:

Executing this important work to protect our communities would not be possible without the following agencies who are receiving the funds, and overseeing the work:

- Olympic Valley Fire Department
- North Tahoe Fire Protection District
- Truckee Fire Protection District
- Northstar Fire Protection District
- Cal Fire  & California State Parks

The agencies came together to work collaboratively to ensure that the funding made available by the Truckee Tahoe airport board supported the highest priority “shovel ready” projects that each district had ready to implement this year. Together they identified projects that would most benefit our community.

Some of TTAD’s other efforts include:

  • The airport serves as a valuable base for the Care Flight air ambulance service, as well as helicopter fire surveillance and fire fighting emergency services.
  • The Truckee Tahoe airport also stands at-the-ready to serve as a base of operations for response helicopters should a wildfire break out in the region.
  • TTAD airport offers Jet A Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to pilots who fuel up in Truckee.
