Snow Day Forecast for 3 Jan
Weather Forecast Overview
Precipitation start and type: Liquid precipitation is expected to begin the evening of the 2nd and intensify throughout the day on the 3rd. It will likely transition to snow at some point during the day on the 3rd.
Snow continuation: Snow is likely to persist through the evening of the 4th.
Temperature drop: Temperatures are forecast to drop below freezing between the 4th and the 5th.
Airport Operations and Runway Status
Initial operations: Airport staff will likely initiate wet runway FICONS at the beginning of the day on the 3rd.
FICONS updates: FICONS will be updated as the runway contamination evolves from water to slush and snow.
Runway closures (3rd): Runways will be closed if slush and snow accumulate to 1.5 inches or more. If this occurs in the afternoon of the 3rd, there will not be sufficient time to begin snow removal that day.
Runway closures (4th & 5th): Runways are very likely to be closed for snow removal operations on the 4th. Due to continuous precipitation, they might not be fully cleared until the 5th.
Potential ice sheet: An underlying ice sheet is possible on the runway on the morning of the 5th, which would require solar energy to melt before the runways can open.
Summary of Runway Closure Possibilities
Afternoon of the 3rd: Possible closure if snow accumulation reaches 1.5 inches or greater.
Morning of the 4th: Very likely closure.
Reopening: Reopening might be delayed until midday on the 5th, depending on clearing operations and the potential for an ice sheet.
Note: This information is a forecast and actual conditions may change. Our forecast should be used to indicate when trouble may be encountered in order to add extra caution to your flight planning. If we indicate a runway closure may be imminent and you wish to get out before the closure then call dispatch. Stay abreast of approved weather forecasting and reporting as well as NOTAMS
Runway Availability: This means one runway, a parallel taxiway, and reasonable access to a ramp. Full runway and taxiway access, services, and access to hangars will happen after a runway has been made available. Sometimes a day or more will be required to provide full access.

Snow Day Forecast for 27 Dec
-We will get some more snow tonight but probably less than an inch.
-Airport staff spent the full day on the 26th working on snow removal. We were not able to achieve conditions to declare one runway available. We will begin again first thing Sat morning and expect to have runway availability some time during the day on the 27th. As of the end of the 26th no work has been done clearing hangars. Hangar rows may not be fully clear until into the day on Sunday the 28th.
-Runways remain closed until the afternoon on the 27th.

-As of 1445 on the 24th we have greater than 3" of wet snow and snow will continue to accumulate.

Snow Day Forecast for 24 Dec
-Two cold fronts with precipitation will move past the airport beginning the night of the 23rd and continuing into the 25th. The first front is likely to bring temperatures above freezing while the second will likely be below freezing. The 24th will likely see a mix of rain and snow falling on warm runways. The 25th will likely see mostly snow with measurable accumulation with near or below freezing temperatures.
-Airport staff will monitor runway conditions and report FICONS as appropriate. If we get accumulations greater that 1.5" of snow/slush we will close runways and begin snow removal operations. Services will be closed at 1600L on the 24th in observance of Christmas Eve. Services will not reopen until 0700L on the 26th. It is very likely that when services recommence on the 26th the airfield will be closed for snow removal that accumulated on the 25th.
-There is a small chance of runway closure on the 24th, the runways will not be monitored on the 25th, there is a likely chance that the runways will be closed on the morning of the 26th and if there was significant snowfall on the 25th they may remain closed most if not all of the 26th.
