Truckee Tahoe Airport awarded "District Transparency Certificate of Excellence"!  

There are just over 3,400 Special Districts in the Great State of California. Of those, your Truckee Tahoe Airport District is one of just nine Special "Airport Districts" across the state!

What is a Special District you may ask?

Special District governments are independent public agencies that provide specific services that are not being supplied by existing general purpose governments. The services provided by these districts range from such basic social needs as hospitals, fire protection, water and wastewater treatment, to parks and recreation, airports, mosquito abatement, ship-ports, libraries, and even public cemeteries.

Your Truckee Tahoe Airport District just received the "District Transparency Certificate of Excellence" by the Special District Leadership Foundation (SDLF) in recognition of its outstanding efforts to promote transparency and good governance.    

 “This award is a testament to Truckee Tahoe Airport District’s commitment to open government,” said, Kevin Smith, General Manager. “The entire District Staff is to be commended for their contributions that empower the public with information and facilitate engagement and oversight.”

To receive the award, a Special District must complete a comprehensive application package and demonstrate the completion of essential governance transparency requirements, including such items as: conducting ethics training for all board members, properly conducting open and public meetings, filing financial transactions and compensation reports to the State Controller in a timely manner, and having District information accessible to the public via a robust website, and more!

The awarding agency, SDLF is an independent, non-profit organization formed to promote good governance and best practices among California’s Special Districts through certification, accreditation, and other recognition programs.
