TTSA Youth Glider Camp
Sep 20, 2019
Truckee-Tahoe Soaring Association (TTSA) held a Youth Glider Camp at KTRK this past summer!
The Soaring Association is a local aviation non-profit and has a long history and commitment to youth aviation STEM educational programs. The organization offers work/flight training opportunities to area youth every summer. Many of their program graduates have gone on to military academies or flight training colleges, and all have learned the value of responsibility, a positive work ethic and team work.
TTSA is committed to youth flight education and partners with the Truckee Tahoe Airport District (TTAD) to achieve this goal every year.
Nine local young "aviators" aged 14 - 18 attended the 2019 inaugural seven-day Youth Glider Camp, July 28 through August 3 at the TTSA glider port facility. As a STEM program, the Camp was designed to introduce general aviation soaring skills. The Camp was a sleep over experience and was all-inclusive with 10 formal glider lessons (103 flights total), along with field trips to Fallon Naval Air Station, an indoor skydiving facility in Roseville, and a ‘Ropes’ athletic course.
TTSA offers commercial rides to the public, does soaring flight instruction from introductory to advanced levels, and launches private gliders during their season from Memorial Day through the end of September. TTSA closes for the season this year on September 29, 2019.
