WILDFIRE PREVENTION & WILDLIFE HAZARD MANAGEMENT

If you happen to see heavy equipment west of parallel-taxiway Golf and north of Runway 11-29 during the next few weeks, know that the Airport District (as part of its long-term Lands Management Plan) is clearing scrub for both wildfire prevention and wildlife hazard management.

Dave Theis with Cold Creek Land Services is masticating (clearing) approximately 23 acres of land, pushing the scrub-line further back from Runway 11-29. The expansion of the cleared area acts not only as a fire break, but also discourages animals from approaching the runway as they prefer being less exposed. (Photos by: Marc Lamb)

Deer, coyote and brown bear are occasionally seen along the tree and scrub line on the airfield.
