CAA Jet A Fuel Discounts Being Discontinued

Jan 06, 2022

The Truckee Tahoe Airport District (TTAD) strives to make flying affordable for locally-based pilots, passengers, and community members who travel by air. Over the past number of years, we have offered fuel discounts for JET A to our local tenants through the Corporate Aircraft Association (CAA) fuel consortium which provides Part 91, non-commercial aircraft owners and operators with a membership-based fuel discount program.

Due to growth in CAA over the past few years, 85% of sales are going to transient operators and not to local tenants, which was not the original intent of this program.  With thin profit margins related to the CAA pricing, District staff is exploring other options to provide a local’s discount for JET A that we plan to propose in the first quarter of 2022.  We are also in the final stages of preparing and evaluating a comprehensive cost and revenue allocation study for the Airport District which will also inform rate and fee setting in 2022.

We asked CAA if they would extend our current pricing for a few months or go month to month while we conduct this analysis transition, but they indicated they could not accommodate our request.  As a result, TTAD will discontinue participating in CAA as of January 1st, 2022.  Staff will propose a new local’s discount for hangar tenants using Jet A in early 2022 in line with our goal of keeping flying affordable for local tenants and District constituents.  We are open to thoughts and ideas from our users and are happy to answer your questions.
