ACT Meeting Skillbridge Internship

Oct 12, 2022

Wednesday, October 12, 2022, 6 - 7 p.m. - U.S. Department of Defense Skillbridge Internship

Guest speaker: Col. Jeff Menasco, USAF

Each year approximately 200,000 members of the U.S. Armed Forces, stationed in over 140 military installations in the U.S. and overseas, will leave active duty and re-enter the civilian work force or pursue higher education.  Through the SkillBridge program industry partners and other government entities benefit from gaining early access to the extensive experience, skills, and unmatched work ethos Service members bring to the workforce. Employers craft SkillBridge programs to meet their specific workforce needs, matching those needs to the skills and abilities of highly motivated Service members, all at no cost.  The goal is to help prevent under-employment and un-employment of Service members as they transition to civilian life.

How is this possible? The U.S. Department of Defense pays Service member salary and benefits while the Service member participates in SkillBridge for up to the last 180 days of the member’s service.  We are fortunate that Nevada County is an approved Skillbridge partner and has a handful of interns “Skillbridg-ing” with the community.  Truckee Tahoe Airport is partnering with Nevada County to Skillbridge US Air Force Colonel Jeff Menasco for 3 months before he retires.  This month’s Airport Community Team meeting will have a brief introduction to the Skillbridge program and we’ll learn a little bit about Colonel Menasco’s 28+ year career serving our nation.
