KTRK Active Support Base for the Royal Fire

Jul 08, 2024

Your Truckee Tahoe airport not only helps with wildfire mitigation via $2M in grant funding, but is also an active support base fighting the Royal Fire.  We have two Chinook and one Blackhawk helicopters operating from the airport day and night.  The Chinook helicopters pictured here can uplift 3,000 gallons from a hover over a water source.  This morning N588AJ “Dos Ochos” did 15 lifts of water on one tank of fuel and is also pictured here refueling with our Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).  N950CH flew throughout last night on night vision googles putting water on the fire and is stationed here for the summer.  Historical note, N950CH is a retired US Army helicopter that flew Saddam Hussein to Baghdad in 2004.
