[Sierra Sun] Truckee Tahoe Airport community meeting focuses on aircraft noise, resident concerns
Feb 13, 2025
The Truckee Tahoe Airport District’s Airport Community Team (ACT) meeting on February 12 focused on ongoing aircraft noise concerns and the community’s frustrations over increasing jet traffic. Residents, pilots, and airport officials engaged in an open discussion about noise abatement efforts, air traffic management, and the airport’s responsiveness to complaints.
While airport officials emphasized their commitment to transparency and collaboration, many residents expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of meaningful change and a sense of resignation over reporting noise complaints. Suggestions included installing neighborhood noise monitors and enforcing stricter nighttime flight restrictions, but officials pointed to FAA regulations as a limiting factor.
Concerns over potential runway expansions, increased private jet traffic, and nighttime helicopter operations were also discussed. Airport representatives urged residents to continue reporting noise concerns and announced a Noise Symposium in March to further address these issues.
