Got drones?
Drones (a.k.a. "unmanned aerial vehicles” or “UAVs”) have become very popular in both recreational and commercial use. Many drone/UAV operators are new to aviation, so we hope you find this information useful to safely enjoy your aircraft.
Truckee Tahoe Airport is a busy general aviation airport with around 30,000 aircraft operations each year.
Per the Airport's Rules and Regulations:
"No person shall fly or release a drone/UAV, rocket, kite, fireworks, tethered-balloon, etc., on or within five (5) miles of the airport if such activity would create a hazard to aircraft operations."
Drones/UAVs cannot be operated above 75’ within a 5 mile radius of any airport without prior agreement from the airport operator. Contact Truckee Tahoe Airport prior to any operations that may exceed 75’ above ground level within a 5 mile radius of the airport.
Under federal law, you must register your drone/UAV with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The online registration can be found at http://www.faa.gov/uas/registration. This law also applies to model aircraft.
Review the Know Before You Fly website for valuable information about flying your aircraft responsibly. The Know Before You Fly campaign is a partnership between the FAA, the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International, the Academy of Model Aeronautics and the Small UAV Coalition.
Here are some key tips to fly safely and responsibly:
