July 30, 2021 – The Truckee Tahoe Airport District along with the Town of Truckee, express their sincere condolences to those affected by the aircraft accident that occurred on Monday, July 26th.

“The Truckee Tahoe Airport is deeply saddened by the aircraft accident in our community this week. Our thoughts are with those who lost loved ones, and for those who witnessed the tragedy from the ground,” said Kevin Smith, General Manager of the Truckee Tahoe Airport District. “As airport employees, residents, and members of the Board of Directors, incidents like this hurt us deeply, and we will do everything in our power to support the NTSB investigation.”

On Monday afternoon, a Challenger 605 Twin Engine Jet crashed on approach to Runway 11 enroute from Coeur D’Alene, Idaho. All six of those on board lost their lives. No one on the ground was physically injured. CalFire was on the scene within minutes to extinguish the resulting fire, and now the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will conduct an official investigation into the incident.

The Nevada County Sherriff-Coroner’s Office is actively engaged in investigating and determining the identities of victims on the aircraft. The Office is working directly with the families believed to have lost loved ones on the aircraft to help them through this difficult period. As soon as there is positive identification and next of kin contact has been made, the names of those victims will be released.

At the incident site, debris is currently being removed and authorities are preparing to clear the accident scene. Some utilities will be restored today to the surrounding neighborhood.

To help the community grieve and heal, Nevada County Crisis Response Health Professionals will provide assistance related to the incident. These services include in-person meetings where mental health professionals and those affected can discuss the event, as well as resources for those who may need additional assistance. Three meetings will be held at the Hampton Inn and Suites, Sierra Room, at 11951 State Hwy 267, Truckee, CA. Two meetings are being held for adults: Monday, August 2, at 6:00pm and Tuesday, August 3, at 4:30pm.  A child-specific meeting will take place on Tuesday, August 3, at 3:00pm. All affected are welcome and encouraged to attend.  If you need additional information, please contact (530) 587-4119 x 107 or email info@TruckeeTahoeAirport.com.
