KTRK Receives Apaca Award

Feb 01, 2016

The Truckee Tahoe Airport District was honored and recognized by the American Planning Association - California Chapter, Sacramento Valley (APACA - Sacramento Valley) with a "2015 Local Vision Award". The award is given to those organizations that have made outstanding contributions to creating better places and have challenged the members of their communities to think differently about the everyday decisions they make. Airport General Manager Kevin Smith accepted the award on behalf of TTAD at the January 20, 2016 Sacramento Awards Ceremony.

"The Truckee Tahoe Airport District's slogan “Connected By More Than A Runway” truly fits the culture of this organization. As a public airport, the District has a well-developed public outreach program related to noise and annoyance issues, and supports the fire-fighting, medevac services, search and rescue, and the Civil Air Patrol with space to operate and provide educational opportunities to the local residents. In addition, TTAD is involved with broader planning efforts include partnering with the Truckee Donner Land Trust for land acquisition, preservation and management of Waddle Ranch in the Martis Valley and owner of the Ponderosa Golf Course. The District is a partner organization for the Truckee Trails Master Plan, contributing to the regional trail system by providing trails on their property connecting to other existing and planned trails. The District is currently developing a commercial building on their property for lease to one of the largest employers in the region to help keep jobs in the region. The District is also providing building space on their property to support the Truckee Roundhouse organization who is developing a Maker’s Space for local artisans. Implementation of this includes the District providing needed infrastructure improvements to support equipment needs for the space. A few years ago, the District replaced their small District office buildings with one larger building which provides meeting space for local organizations, a popular café in an area that is under served, and a safe playground and gathering place for families. Local events are held at the Airport, and the District also participates in other community events and provides sponsorships for local non-profit fundraising efforts."

The Town of Truckee was also honored with an award for "Comprehensive Planning - Small Jurisdiction, Award of Excellence, for the Coldstream Specific Plan" by APACA Sacramento Valley.
