TTAD is removing a number of trees near the Truckee ball field and bike park (Joerger Dr.) on airport property for aviation safety.  The Aeronautics Division of Caltrans found during a recent KTRK airfield inspection that some trees were inside FAA 14 CFR Part 77 airspace, (in the departure and arrival flight paths of Runway 11-29).  Wilderness Forestry has been hired to remove the involved trees.

KTRK's Visual Approach Slope Indicator (VASI) on Runway 20 was recertified by the FAA after flight testing and is operational again as of Thursday, October 31, 2024.  The FAA Notice to Air Mission (NOTAM) of the VASI being non-operational has been pulled.  The VASI had been originally damaged during the record '21-'22 winter from snow load, and then experienced delays in its repair and FAA recertification during Runway 02-20 reconstruction and FAA flight test failures. Standard Policy Instruction (SPI) #150.0 has recently been updated covering rules and regulations for "Access Control of the Airport Operations Area (AOA)".  The purpose of the document, is to establish a District policy for the management of access privileges to the AOA and ramp areas with goals of eliminating Vehicle/Pedestrian deviation, avoiding runway incursions and surface incidents, while enhancing safety and security of personnel, customers, and personal and public property.
